A unique Trapiche emerald from Colombia—small but exquisite, featuring a beautiful, clear green color.
These emeralds derive their name from the *trapiche* (pronounced tra-PEE-che), a grinding wheel used in Colombia, South America. In the regions where these gemstones are commonly found, people use such wheels to process sugarcane. Some of these gemstones resemble a spoked wheel with a hexagonal core.
During the formation of an emerald crystal, black carbon impurities can become trapped within the gemstone matrix. Due to the emerald’s hexagonal crystal structure, these impurities can accumulate along the crystal junctions, creating a six-pointed radial pattern.
