This fascinating, domed design dates back to before 1753. It was rediscovered through the influential work *The Historic Teachings of Gemcutting* by gem cutter and historian Justin K. Prim.
Rather than concealing the tanzanite’s natural characteristics, this cut brings them into the spotlight. The 193 (!) precisely placed facets on the exterior act like a lens, offering a three-dimensional view of the enchanting blue-to-violet color gradient and the unique, natural layering within the stone.
